ASSESSMENTS

As per N.J.S.A. 54:4-38.1, Property Tax Assessment postcards for 2024 will be mailed to property owners on or about February 15, 2024. The assessment shown on this notice represents the Assessment that will appear on the Municipal tax List for 2024.

 The 2023 taxes listed on this card are not necessarily the amount paid on the account.  Please verify this information with the Tax Collector’s Office.

Information regarding the appeal process appears on the back of this notice.  Forms and instructions for filing an appeal may be obtained by contacting Cape May County Board of Taxation (609) 465-1030.  Assessment appeals must be filed on or before April 1, 2024. All Municipal charges must be current for the appeal to be heard by the County Board of Taxation.

Please note that the Township underwent an extensive block and lot change in 2006 due to the revaluation process. If there are any questions concerning your block and lot identification please contact the Assessor’s office at (609) 465-8726.

PROPERTY TAX DEDUCTIONS

Tax deductions and exemptions are granted only by provision of the New Jersey Constitution or by general law.  At present, deductions and exemptions granted by constitutional provision concern property of war veterans and their surviving spouses, senior citizens, disabled persons and their surviving spouses.

             Senior Citizens, Disabled Persons, Surviving Spouse/Surviving Civil Union Partner:

             The New Jersey Constitution authorizes an annual deduction from the real property taxes on a dwelling house owned and occupied by a person 65 years of age or older or permanently and totally disabled; or the qualified surviving spouse/Surviving  Civil Union Partner of a senior citizen or disabled person; where annual income is $10,000 or less after permitted exclusions (N.J.S.A.54:4-8.40 et seq.).

To qualify for the annual $250.00 real property tax deduction a claimant must meet requirements of citizenship, property ownership, residency, income, timely application and age or disability or widowhood.    Applicants should confer with the Assessor about their eligibility.

              Veterans, Surviving Spouse/Civil Union or Domestic Partner of Veteran or Service person:

             The New Jersey Constitution authorizes an annual deduction from the real property taxes levied on real and personal property owned by qualified veterans and their surviving spouse/Civil Union or Domestic Partner.

To qualify for the annual $250.00 real property tax deduction a claimant must meet requirements of citizenship, residency, honorable discharge, real or personal property ownership, timely application and surviving spouse/civil union or domestic partner where warranted.  Applicants should confer with the Assessor about their eligibility.

             100% Disabled Veterans or  Surviving Spouse/Civil Union or Domestic Partner of Disabled Veteran or Service person:

             The New Jersey Constitution authorizes an annual exemption from the real property taxes levied on real and personal property owned by qualified 100% Disabled veterans and their surviving spouse/Civil Union or Domestic Partner.

To qualify for the annual real property tax exemption a claimant must meet requirements of citizenship, property ownership, residency, honorable discharge, 100% service connected disability, timely application and surviving spouse/civil union or domestic partner where warranted.  Applicants should confer with the Assessor about their eligibility.
