The Township of Middle in its quest to recognize local businesses for their support and dedication, has chosen the Rio Grande Shoprite to be the August Business of the Month.
Shoprite is a charitable sponsor to many of our community events including Township functions, local churches and food banks. “Shoprite has always been there when we needed a hand”, said Mayor Michael Clark. ShopRite of Rio Grande is proud to be a part of the community, and we welcome all our customers into our extended family. Over 80 years ago, Greek immigrants Nick and Perry Sumas opened the very first Village Super Market. Just under 10 years later, the brothers joined Wakefern ShopRite, becoming one of the cooperative’s earliest members. As the Sumas family grew, so too did their business, now a publicly-owned company operating 30 ShopRite stores in New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania. The core mission of ShopRite of Rio Grande is to fight hunger in the community we serve. We have various programs throughout the year to support this mission including the Great American Milk Drive, Partners in Caring, Get a Shot Give a Dollar Flu Shot Campaign, as well as the Holiday Food Donation Bags. Through our Food Rescue Program, we were able to donate over 1,000,000 pounds of food to local food pantries 2017. In addition to our in-store programs, our associates enjoy various volunteer events throughout the year at the Community Food Bank of NJ in Egg Harbor Twp.
