Recognized for an incredible work ethic and team-player approach, Dustin Sturm, recently was awarded Middle Township’s Employee of the Month for July.

Appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Recreation in 2018, Sturm works to plan, promote, organize, and oversee all recreation services within the community such as the playgrounds and recreation centers.

“From the moment he was hired, Dustin has been hands-on in learning everything about our department and the township,” said Recreation Superintendent, Robert H Matthews Jr. “He’s been a great addition to the department and an outstanding collaborator.”

Mayor Timothy Donohue, who nominated Sturm for the honor, said “While it’s not customary for someone in my position to nominate an employee for this award, I was compelled to do so after receiving an overwhelming amount of positive reviews regarding Dustin’s performance. He’s earned the respect of his fellow employees as well as the organizations outside of our community that use our facilities. Overall, he’s a great ambassador for all our sports.”

Committeeman Michael J Clark added, “Dustin is an energetic, dynamic go-getter that enhances our recreation department and is a valuable part of the township team.”

Sturm oversees the recreational sports initiatives year-round. Once word of his nomination reached the sports community, Fred Mick, a representative for the Middle Township Baseball Association (MTBSA), reached out to say, “Dustin was proactive in helping us provide a positive playing environment for the kids. From opening day of baseball and softball seasons through the last playoff games, Dustin’s there lending a hand wherever needed – even if it means helping line and prep the fields for our youth players. From all of us at MTBSA – thank you; this is a well-deserved acknowledgment.”

Middle Township initiated the Employee of the Month program to recognize employees who have shown exceptional dedication, determination, innovation, or performance. Employees are honored for going above and beyond the typical job requirements to help the township run smoothly and efficiently.   The program culminates with the Darius Graham Employee of the Year honor, named for one of the township’s most beloved employees in history.

Township residents who have had a very positive interaction with any Middle Township employee can pick up a one-page nomination form from the Human Resources and Training Department, the Administration Department, or from the bulletin board inside Middle Township Hall, 33 Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
