Emergency Repairs at 96th Street Bridge – Beginning July 21, 2020

Emergency repairs at 96th Street bridge

Please be aware that the contractor will be resuming with emergency repairs on the 96th Street Bridge at night beginning tonight.  However, due to the nature of the work, there will  be no closure required of the bridge for vehicle traffic or maritime traffic, the repair work will  be self-contained under the bridge.  We anticipate that the work will occur from 8:00pm to 6:00am Monday thru Thursdays until August 6th. The contractor will be installing plating to strengthen the bascule girders at the southeast, northeast and northwest quadrants of the bridge at the main piers. A similar but more critical repair has already been completed at the southwest quadrant.  Noise should be minimal and will be limited to the use of hand drills, hand grinders and a portable welding machine. No heavy equipment will be used for this phase of construction. The contractor may utilize a onetime  temporary bridge closure (5 minutes) during the night to place heavy materials below deck  but this impact on traffic will be similar to a normal bridge opening that would occur to accommodate a vessel passing.

Atlantic City Electric Reliability Update – July 17, 2020

Atlantic City Electric Reliability Update:
As part of finalizing plans for our Middle Township-Wildwoods reliability project which includes rebuilding a critical transmission line that serves more than 24,000 customers between Middle Township and the Wildwoods to reduce the impacts of more powerful storms. These upgrades will strengthen the local energy grid and enhance resiliency, leading to fewer storm-related outages and better reliability for our customers.

We will be replacing existing wood poles with stronger, state-of -the-art steel utility poles along parts of Route 9, King Street, and East Edgewood Ave in Middle Township and in West Wildwood.

To finalize our construction plans, we need to do a dewatering study on the dirt right-of-way on Edgewood Ave.
The contractor’s tentative plans, weather permitting, are looking to start the window between July 22nd-July 31st for the execution of a dewatering study. The contractor performing the work is Uni-tech Drilling Inc.

Location:
  • End of East Edgewood in Middle Township
Procedure:
  • One call to mark out utilities in the vicinity of the proposed boreholes
  • Signs and cones for traffic control will be utilized
  • Soft dig down to four feet below ground surface at the borehole locations
  • Truck mounted rig and hollow stem auger a seven inch diameter borehole down to approximately twenty feet
  • Two inch diameter PVC well screen and casing to install the wells
  • Overpumping to develop the wells
  • Groundwater sampling will be performed one day after installation
  • Return two days after installation to abandon the wells and backfill and grout the boreholes.

Any questions about this project, please contact our Middle Township-Wildwoods reliability phone number at 609-909-3930 or email opens in a new windowMT-WildwoodsReliability@exeloncorp.com .
