Atlantic City Electric Reliability Project

While Atlantic City Electric’s contractor, Riggs Distler, is installing new wire to improve the energy reliability in Middle and Dennis Townships, please be prepared for traffic delays as we ensure the safety of the public and contractors.

This schedule is subject to change contingent on weather, equipment, and additional safety reasons.

The proposed schedule starts today through Sunday, March 14, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a proposed line shift at the intersection of Route 9 and Avalon Boulevard.

Further north, at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 83, there will be a north bound detour to Kings Highway.

We appreciate your patience during this reliability improvement project.

COVID at One Year – Light After Darkness Rescheduled for Saturday, March 20th

Middle Twp. announces new date for community event to mark COVID’s impact

Candlelight vigil, tribute to essential workers now set for March 20 after weather delay

Cape May Court House, N.J. – Middle Township has postponed its outdoor community event to reflect on one year since the start of the pandemic to Saturday, March 20.

Officials rescheduled the ceremony because rain is in the forecast for the original event date of Tuesday.

“COVID at One Year: Light After Darkness,” held at the Ockie Wisting Recreation Complex, will mark a year since the shutdowns and other pandemic-related developments that abruptly reshaped our lives.

The community is invited to safely gather at the recreation complex beginning at 6 p.m. March 20. Members of the public are expected to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. The event will culminate with a candlelight vigil at sunset to remember all Township residents lost to COVID.

As visitors arrive, two large monitors near the stage will show some of the most poignant images from the last year, including scenes of modified events and photos of community members helping one another.

Along with live performances of the national anthem and other songs, the event will include remarks by Township Committee members, and a plaque presentation to Cape Regional Medical Center. Additional awards will acknowledge the courage and contributions of essential workers in various fields.

Anyone who does not attend in person will be able to see the event live streamed on the Middle Township Facebook page.

Check the Middle Township Facebook page for additional details that will be shared closer to the date of the event.

Road Closure and Detour – Bayshore Road (CR 603)

Notice of Road Closure and Detour

Bayshore Road (C.R. 603) at Lower Township/Middle Township border
On Tuesday March 9, 2021 the Cape May County public works department discovered a sinkhole
forming in the north bound shoulder area of Bayshore Road (C.R. 603) at the Fishing Creek culvert
crossing. Upon further inspection by the County Engineer, it was determined that the subbase under the
northbound lane and at least a portion of the south bound lane had scoured out, leaving the asphalt
paving surface unsupported. As a result, Bayshore Road was immediately closed at this location and a
detour has been established until emergency repairs are completed.

North bound Bayshore Road thru traffic wishing to access Del Haven and/or Route 47 will be
detoured east onto Fulling Mill Road (C.R. 654) to Route 47. Traffic will then proceed north on Route 47
where motorists can access Bayshore Road and proceed up to Rutledge Avenue of the Del Haven
Section of Middle Township or simply continue on Route 47 heading north.
South bound Route 47 traffic approaching Bayshore Road and wishing to continue as thru traffic
south on Bayshore Road will be directed to continue along Route 47 south to Fulling Mill Road (C.R.
654). Traffic will them be directed west onto Fulling Mill Road back to Bayshore Road where they can
continue heading south.

Local north bound Bayshore Road traffic will be permitted to continue north on Bayshore Road to
Miami Avenue and will be permitted to proceed to the Lower Township senior citizens center. There will
be a full closure at the culvert crossing. Likewise, local south bound traffic on Bayshore Road
approaching from Route 47 will be permitted to continue to travel south to Rutledge Avenue in Middle
Township and will be permitted to access County Park South. There will be a full closure near Rutledge
Avenue on the north side of the culvert crossing as well. All local business will remain open and
accessible.

The County has developed a work plan and has entered into an emergency contract to make the
necessary culvert and roadway improvements. Due to the extensive nature of the work, it is anticipated
that repairs will take 2-3 weeks and this portion of Bayshore Road will remain unpassable until the
repairs are completed. Motorists are advised to account for additional travel times.

Notice of Temporary Closure of Ingram’s Thorofare Bridge and Detour of Avalon Blvd – March 10th and 11th

Notice of Temporary Closure of Ingram’s Thorofare Bridge and Detour of Avalon Boulevard (C.R. 601)

On Wednesday and Thursday nights, March 10th and 11th 2021, the Ingram’s Thorofare
Bridge will be closed between the hours of 7:00pm thru 5:00am due to ongoing construction.
As a result, Avalon Boulevard (C.R. 601) will be closed to thru traffic during these hours. The
roadway and bridge will re-open after those hours and remain open thereafter. In addition,
during the hours of 9:00am thru 5:00pm on March 10th and March 11th, there will be brief times
when the active lane of the bridge will be closed for a period of no more than 15 minutes in
order to allow for the discharge of concrete trucks. Traffic backups will be minimized thru the
use of traffic directors who will override the existing traffic signals in order to balance traffic
waits, however, motorists are advised that there may be longer than usual wait times during
those days.

Motorists heading south on Route 9 and wishing to access Avalon via Avalon Boulevard will
be required to continue heading south along Route 9 until they arrive at the Stone Harbor
Boulevard intersection (C.R. 657). They will then be directed east along Stone Harbor
Boulevard/ 96th Street to Third Avenue (C.R. 619) in Stone Harbor. They will then be directed
north along C.R. 619 to Avalon. Traffic exiting the Garden State Parkway at exit 13 and wishing
to head east to Avalon will be directed west to Route 9 to follow the same detour. Northbound
traffic approaching Stone Harbor Boulevard and wishing to access Avalon will be directed onto
Stone Harbor Boulevard at exit 10.

Motorist heading north along Route 9 wishing to access Avalon via Avalon Boulevard will be
directed to head east at the Stone Harbor Boulevard intersection. Once in Stone Harbor,
motorists will be directed north along Third Avenue (C.R. 619) toward Avalon. Traffic on the
barrier islands wishing to utilize Avalon Boulevard to access the Garden State Parkway or Route
9 will be directed south on C.R. 619 to 96th Street, where they will be directed west along Stone
Harbor Boulevard to Route 9 and the Parkway.

Local traffic will be permitted to access Avalon Boulevard up to the Ingram’s Thorofare
Bridge from either side, but will not be permitted to cross the bridge. Please note that due to
the current load restriction of the 96th Street Bridge (C.R. 657), vehicles over 15 tons will not
be able to access Stone Harbor/ Avalon until traffic resumes on the Ingram’s Thorofare
bridge at 5:00am the following mornings. Please plan accordingly and obey all traffic control
devices and speed limits.

After the bridge reopens to traffic, motorists are urged to abide by the temporary traffic
signals. There has been an increase in motorists running the red lights. The results of this
action could lead to a head on collision and possible death. Motorists are advised that the
police will be stepping up enforcement to catch violators.
