Middle Township Garden Club Looks to Plant Seeds of Beautification

Middle Township introduced an ordinance to create a municipal Garden Club at the April 22, 2024 Township Committee meeting.  The concept for the Garden Club was advanced by Matt Wetzel and Don Thomas, the owners of Thomas Matthew Designs on Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.

The mission of the Garden Club will be to develop ideas, research costs, and implement approved plans for beautification projects and related events.

While the Garden Club will have an unlimited number of members, Wetzel will serve as Chairperson and Thomas as Vice Chair. Other board officers will include Karen Camagna, Trish Crosby, and Karen Parker.

The Garden Club will be seeking community volunteers and hopes to partner with the Middle Township Senior Center, the American Legion, and other Township organizations on projects to beautify, enhance, and create green spaces throughout the community.

“On behalf of all of our residents, I want thank Matt and Don for bringing this concept to Township Committee,” Mayor Chris Leusner said. “We are really excited to support the Garden Club’s efforts and look forward to facilitating partnerships and projects throughout our hometown.”

The Garden Club will focus on creating streetscape designs, developing budgets, and seeking donations and volunteer contractors for initial projects. All projects will be reviewed and approved by the governing body with input from appropriate professionals and department heads.

Outreach, updates, and publicity for volunteer opportunities and fundraising events will be coordinated by the Township’s Public Information firm, Prime Marketing NJ.
